ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, transferred its Natural Fibre-Based Vegan Leather Technology to Bengaluru-based M/s Shreyaskam Private Limited through the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at the institute today. The technology offers a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to developing value-added vegan leather materials from natural fibres, providing an alternative to conventional leather and petroleum-based synthetic materials.
The MoA was exchanged in the presence of Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, and Shreyas K.M., Managing Director, Founder & CEO, M/s Shreyaskam Private Limited, along with Sh. Akhilesh N., Co-founder & Director of the firm. Senior officials and scientists of ICAR-NINFET were present during the MoA exchange.

The technology transfer is expected to accelerate the commercialisation and value addition of natural fibres, while creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and the development of sustainable material-based enterprises. The technology has potential applications in footwear, bags, fashion accessories and other lifestyle products, offering a greener alternative to conventional leather and petroleum-derived synthetic materials.
The initiative marks another step towards strengthening industry–research linkages and promoting the commercial utilisation of innovative technologies developed by ICAR. It also reinforces ICAR-NINFET’s commitment to technology transfer, sustainable material development, value addition of natural fibres and promotion of green enterprises in the country.
