ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, organized a plantation drive on 12 August 2026 as part of the nationwide Hariyali Amavasya Campaign under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
As part of the campaign, scientists, technical and administrative staff and students participated in the virtual national address by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. The address highlighted the importance of ecological responsibility, climate change mitigation and individual contributions towards enhancing green cover.

The plantation drive was conducted near the Genomics Building premises and Gulguli Ecotourism site, with saplings of indigenous and environmentally beneficial species planted by the Director, Heads of Divisions and Head of Administration & Finance, along with other staff members and students.
The initiative aimed at enhancing the Institute’s green cover while promoting awareness about afforestation, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable environmental practices. Participants were encouraged to take responsibility for nurturing and maintaining the planted saplings to ensure their healthy growth and survival.

The campaign reinforced the message of nurturing nature with the same care and affection associated with one’s mother. ICAR-CRRI also encouraged its employees to undertake plantation activities at the Institute campus, homes and native villages and contribute actively to the protection and nurturing of trees.
The initiative reaffirmed ICAR-CRRI’s continued commitment to fostering a greener, healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations.
