The five-day Teaching Competency Enhancement Programme for Faculty of Agricultural Universities, organised by ICAR–National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, from 10–14 August 2026, concluded today, with a focus on strengthening faculty competencies and promoting contemporary, learner-centric approaches to agricultural education.
The programme covered key areas including teaching management, communication, learning psychology, curriculum and lesson planning, NEP 2020 and agricultural education, innovative teaching methodologies, educational technology, OERs and MOOCs, AI and cloud technologies, assessment and evaluation, classroom management, question paper setting and emotional intelligence. Micro-teaching exercises, an educational visit and sessions on immersive technologies further provided participants with opportunities for experiential learning and practical application.
About 11 faculty members from 8 States and 9 agricultural universities participated in the programme, facilitating peer learning, professional networking and exchange of teaching practices.
During the inaugural session, Dr Raman Meenakshi Sundaram, Director, ICAR-NAARM, highlighted the crucial role of teachers in shaping future generations and emphasised the need to move towards learner-centric education. He stressed developing competencies in critical thinking, entrepreneurship, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership and digital skills, while integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote sensing with relevant practical applications.
The programme provided participants with opportunities to reflect on and strengthen their teaching practices. The micro-teaching sessions, in particular, enabled them to practise, receive feedback and refine their classroom skills, contributing to more effective and engaging teaching-learning processes in agricultural universities.
