The Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute (CSWRCRTI), Research Center, Chandigarh celebrated its 59th Foundation Day on 8nd May, 2014. The center was established on this day in 1956 under Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
Dr. A.K. Tiwari, Head of the center, Chandigarh welcomed the invitees and staff and highlighted the significance achievements of the institute. He elaborated that over the years, the center has contributed in developing the package of practices for erosion control from denuded Shivaliks, identified different tree and grass species for rehabilitation of denuded hills, developed suitable agronomic practices for increasing production on sustainable basis. Dr. Tiwari also informed that the center has developed model watersheds for flood and drought control for different physiographic condition of the Shivaliks like Sukhomajri, Nada, Bunga, Relmajra, Johranpur, Mandhala and Kajiyana in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.
Dr. Ram Prashad Yadav and Dr. Swarn Lata Arya, Principal Scientists highlighted the contributions made by the retired scientists, technical officers and other staff in bringing recognitions to the centre and honoured them by mementos.
Dr. R.C. Bansal; Dr. Y. Agnihotri; and Dr. S.S. Grewal, Former Scientists and other staff shared their experiences during founding years of establishment of the Centre.
