Under the guidance of Dr Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, five teams of institute scientists successfully conducted public awareness programs under the "Khet Bachao Abhiyan" at various locations in Almora and Nainital districts. The objective of these programs was to make farmers aware of soil health, balanced nutrient management, organic and natural farming, and sustainable agricultural techniques.
In the programs organized in Ladfoda Malla and Ladfoda Talla villages of the Dhari region in Nainital district, farmers were provided information on soil test-based nutrient management, integrated nutrient management, farmyard manure, vermicompost, green manure, and natural farming techniques such as Jeevamrut, Ghan-Jeevamrut, and Agniastra.
In the same sequence, farmers in Sarna were made aware of various government schemes, Soil Health Cards, and the benefits of organic and natural farming. In the programs organized in Aksoda and Harinagar Sarna villages, scientists provided guidance to farmers specifically on soil test-based nutrient management, balanced fertilizer use, scientific preparation of well-decomposed farmyard manure, and white grub management.

The programs emphasized that production costs can be reduced and long-term agricultural productivity can be increased by adopting regular soil testing, increasing the content of organic matter, and practicing environmentally friendly farming.
In the program organized in Dhabra Saural village of the Salt development block in Almora, 35 farmers participated, where detailed discussions were held on soil health, soil fertility, balanced fertilizer use, vermicompost production, water conservation, crop residue management, and integrated farming systems. In the program, farmers were provided information related to assistance schemes of the Agriculture Department and other institutions, crop insurance, soil health management, agricultural input assistance, agricultural machinery, and financial support. The farmers participated enthusiastically and interacted with the scientists to find solutions to their problems.
A total of 85 farmers participated in these programs, including 30 men and 55 women.
