As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Porba, organized a Sarpanch Sammelan with the participation of Gaon Buras (GBs), Village Council Chairmen (VCCs), and Village Council members from Zelomi, Kikrume, Chizami, Upper Khomi, Khezakeno, and Pfitsüromi villages.
The programme focused on creating awareness among village leaders on soil health management, natural farming, judicious use of fertilizers, and integrated livestock farming systems for enhancing farm income and ensuring sustainable agriculture.

Participants were also sensitized to the importance of utilizing farmyard manure (FYM) and other organic resources to improve soil fertility, increase soil organic matter, enhance nutrient availability, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.
The participating village leaders were encouraged to disseminate these scientific and sustainable farming practices among farmers in their respective villages to promote resilient, environmentally sustainable, and climate-resilient agricultural systems across the region.
