ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), Kochi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to strengthen academic and research collaboration in the field of fisheries and aquatic genetic resources.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at KUFOS, Kochi, in the presence of Prof. Dr A. Biju Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, KUFOS; Prof. Dr Dinesh Kaippilly, Registrar, KUFOS; university officers; and representatives from ICAR-NBFGR, including Dr Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, and Dr T. T. Ajith Kumar, Principal Scientist and Head, Regional Centre, ICAR-NBFGR, Kochi, along with scientists from the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. A. Biju Kumar highlighted the significance of the partnership in fostering synergy for research on the indigenous fish genetic resources of Peninsular India for the conservation and sustainable utilisation.
Dr Kajal Chakraborty emphasized the immense potential for collaborative research, academic exchange, capacity building, and innovation to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the fisheries sector and contribute to the Blue Economy.
The collaboration is expected to facilitate joint research programmes, student and faculty interactions /exchange, training and capacity-building initiatives, and the development of innovative technologies for conservation and sustainable utilization of aquatic genetic resources.
The partnership is envisaged to make significant contributions towards biodiversity conservation, sustainable fisheries development, and the realization of the vision of Viksit Bharat through a resilient and knowledge-driven Blue Economy.
