ICAR–Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune in collaboration with Regional Extension Centre (REC) and Regional Research Station, MPKV, Ganeshkhind, Pune organized Awareness-cum- Training Programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Kalamb Village, in Ambegaon Taluka of Pune district today aimed to enhance farmers’ awareness on sustainable and scientific agricultural practices for maintain soil health through balanced use of fertilizers, improved crop health and productivity.
During the programme, the scientists interacted with farmers and discussed the importance of adopting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for improving crop productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability. Farmers were sensitized on the efficient and judicious use of fertilizers and pesticides based on soil conditions and crop requirements.
The team emphasized the importance of soil testing as a scientific tool for assessing soil nutrient status and making informed decisions regarding fertilizer application. Scientists highlighted the adverse effects of indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and encouraged farmers to adopt integrated approaches for nutrient and pest management.

Discussions focused on the use of alternative and eco-friendly inputs such as biofertilizers and biocontrol agents for maintaining soil health, reducing dependence on chemical inputs, and promoting sustainable crop production. The scientists also explained the role of these biological inputs in enhancing nutrient availability, improving soil health, and managing pests in an environmentally safe manner.
As part of the programme, information on various ongoing Government schemes related to agriculture and farmer welfare was disseminated to create awareness and facilitate their effective utilization by the farming community.
At the end of the programme, farmers were apprised of important agricultural practices such as Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, and Insecticide Resistance Management (IRM) practices. These approaches were highlighted to help farmers adopt judicious pest control measures, reduce dependency on chemical pesticides, and promote sustainable agricultural production.
Farmers actively participated in the discussions and sought guidance on improving farm productivity through scientific and sustainable practices.
