Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry Urges Farmers to Adopt Natural Farming and Avail Government Schemes at Kisan Utsav Diwas

As part of Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Nicobar organized Kisan Utsav Diwas during 1–30 June 2026 at the Community Hall, Chota Enaka Village, Nancowry Sub-division.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Kshitij Gyanraj, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry, who appreciated the efforts of ICAR-KVK in strengthening outreach through farmer awareness and capacity-building programmes. He urged farmers to make effective use of the technologies and agricultural inputs provided under various schemes and emphasized the need to bring more farmers under flagship initiatives such as PM-KISAN and Natural Farming for sustainable agricultural development and enhanced livelihood opportunities.

The keynote address was delivered by Shri Charles, Chief Tribal Captain (CTC), Kamorta, who encouraged farmers to actively participate in developmental programmes and adopt scientific farming practices to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the Nicobar Islands.

Shri Pilgrin, Secretary, Tribal Council, and Shri Moses, First Captain, Chota Enaka, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of collective efforts, improved farming practices, and adoption of government-supported technologies for agricultural development.

An input distribution programme was organized during the event, wherein coconut climbing machines and high-quality seeds were distributed to farmers to promote efficient farm operations and improve productivity.

The programme also featured interactive technical sessions in which experts provided information on improved crop production technologies, livestock management, fisheries development, government schemes, and sustainable agricultural practices aimed at enhancing farm income and livelihood security.

The event served as an effective platform for farmer–scientist interaction, knowledge dissemination, and promotion of improved agricultural technologies among the farming community of Chota Enaka Village.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Sri Vijayapuram.

The programme witnessed the participation of 50 farmers along with representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Department of Fisheries, Office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Nancowry, ATMA, Health Department, and Tribal Council.
