The 21st Parthenium Awareness Week (PAW) 2026 was officially started at Ramchandra Mission Ashram, Jabalpur on 16 August 2026 with the enthusiastic participation of more than 200 people, including the Coordinator and Co-Coordinator of the Ramchandra Mission organization, Central India. While the formal inauguration was held on 17 August 2026 at ICAR–Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, the programme commenced with an awareness rally in which nearly 250 students and teachers of Wings Convent School participated, highlighting the management of Parthenium hysterophorus and its harmful effects on agriculture, health, biodiversity and the environment.

Dr P. K. Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, JNKVV, Jabalpur, was the Chief Guest, while Shri Rajeev Singh, Director, Wings Convent School, was the Guest of Honour. The programme was presided over by Dr J. S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, in the presence of Dr P. K. Singh, Chairman, PAW-2026, and attended by nearly 120 scientists, officers, staff and school members.
Addressing the gathering, Dr P. K. Mishra emphasized “Jan Sahyog and Jan Bhagidari” for effective and long-term Parthenium management, while Shri Rajeev Singh highlighted the role of schools and stakeholders in promoting environmental awareness and community participation.

Dr. J. S. Mishra stressed coordinated efforts among all stakeholders, and Dr P. K. Singh outlined PAW-2026 activities and emphasized integrated management, including biological control using Zygogramma bicolorata.
The enthusiastic participation of students, teachers, scientists, officers, staff and community members underscored the importance of collective action and public participation in creating awareness and working towards a Parthenium-free and environmentally sustainable society.
