Results & Impact

1.  Inland Saline Aquaculture

Major Achievement: Inland saline shrimp farming technology was developed and demonstrated using mineral fortification and water-quality management, achieving yields up to 13.5 tonnes/ha. The technology supports productive use of saline lands and farmer livelihoods across Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Beneficiaries / Reach: About 2,500 farmers across Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have adopted inland saline L. vannamei shrimp farming.

2.  National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD)

Major Achievement: Strengthened national aquatic animal disease surveillance through a pan-India network of diagnostic laboratories, early detection of emerging and exotic pathogens, farmer advisories and the ReportFishDisease app, improving disease reporting, outbreak response and sustainable aquaculture.

Beneficiaries / Reach: Fish and shrimp farmers, fisheries departments and aquatic animal health laboratories across India; over 48,000 farmers reached through awareness programmes.

3.  Genetic Improvement Programme for Fish

Major Achievement: Developed Jayanti rohu, CIFA-Amrit catla and CIFA-GI Scampi through selective breeding. Rohu showed 55–62% higher growth; catla reached 1.8 kg/year versus 1.2 kg for local strains (50% higher); G15 scampi showed over 50% higher growth in farmers’ ponds.

Beneficiaries / Reach: In 2024, supplied 54 lakh breeder seeds of Jayanti rohu, 14 lakh breeder seeds of CIFA-Amrit catla and 1.85 lakh breeder seed of CIFA-GI Scampi to NFFBB and multiplier units.
