An Awareness-cum-Training Programme on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan and Distribution of Critical Inputs” was successfully organized today under the Farmer FIRST Programme (FFP). The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of 45 farmers, including 19 Mahila Kisan from the three tribal dominated adopted villages under FFP, namely Khukkham, Padaria, and Ranipur of Kundam block of Jabalpur district. The programme included an extensive interaction with farmers, during which scientific guidance was provided on climate-resilient agricultural practices in view of the changing conditions and the upcoming monsoon season.
Keeping in view the uncertain rainfall scenario, farmers were sensitized on various climate-smart crop management strategies for successful crop establishment and productivity enhancement. These included adoption of Direct-Seeded Rice (DSR) technology, in-situ moisture conservation practices, balanced and judicious use of fertilizers particularly urea and DAP, and the use of supplemental irrigation through sprinklers during prolonged dry spells.

As part of the programme, critical agricultural inputs were distributed among farmers to strengthen preparedness for the upcoming kharif season. Farmers received seeds of high-yielding and weed-competitive rice varieties including Swarna Shreya, Abhishek, DRR 47, and Purna, along with IMI herbicide-tolerant rice variety CR Dhan 207, specifically recommended for Direct-Seeded Rice (DSR) ecosystems. These rice varieties have been scientifically evaluated at ICAR-DWR for their superior weed competitiveness and suitability under resource-conserving production systems. Dr. Mukherjee also delivered a detailed lecture on improved rice cultivation practices with special emphasis on scientific weed management.
The participating farmers actively interacted, shared their field experiences, and expressed interest in adopting the recommended climate-smart technologies and scientific management practices for successful rice cultivation under changing scenario of upcoming monsoon season. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion followed by a vote of thanks.
