21-30 September 2026, Bengaluru
The Division of Genomic Resources, ICAR–National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru, organized a ten-day training programme on “Molecular Characterization of Insect Pests and Natural Enemies” from 21–30 September 2026 at the Hebbal campus of the Institute.
The programme was sponsored under the HRD Programme of ICAR, with the objective of enhancing participants’ knowledge and practical skills in insect molecular biology and bioinformatics, particularly in the areas of agricultural genomics and insect pest management.

The technical sessions conducted over the ten days encompassed both theoretical and practical components of molecular biology and bioinformatics. The molecular biology sessions covered DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, LAMP, and RPA techniques, while the bioinformatics sessions focused on database exploration, sequence analysis and editing, sequence submission, primer design, phylogenetic analysis, and genetic distance estimation.
The training programme incorporated a combination of expert lectures, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, enabling the participants to gain practical experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics tools and their applications in insect research.

The programme enhanced the participants’ technical capabilities and enabled them to effectively integrate molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches into their research. The skills acquired during the training are expected to contribute to the development of improved approaches for insect identification, insect genomics, and sustainable pest management.
A total of 15 participants from various institutes/universities representing seven states of India attended the training programme.
