As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2026, the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, organized a series of activities today, focusing on Human Chain for Swachhata, Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (RRR) awareness and Waste-to-Art.

A Human Chain for Swachhata was organized along the Sreekariyam–Akkulam public road, with the participation of around 160 ICAR-CTCRI staff members, students, research scholars and volunteers. The initiative aimed to create public awareness about cleanliness, responsible waste management and the importance of community participation in promoting Swachhata.
An awareness programme on the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) initiative was also organized with the participation of an expert from Suchitwa Mission, Kerala. The session highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable waste-management practices and minimizing waste generation.

Under the Waste-to-Art initiative, discarded materials were creatively transformed into useful and attractive art models. Students, research scholars, project staff and trainees of ICAR-CTCRI actively participated in preparing and displaying the models, demonstrating the potential of waste materials for creative reuse and value addition.
The activities reinforced the message of responsible waste management and collective action towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
