ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, organised an awareness programme on soil health management and balanced use of fertilizers under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) Programme at Ammanabolu village in the Maru cluster of Motakundur Mandal, Yadagiri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana, today. The programme was organised in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Telangana. The awareness campaign was conducted as part of the Intensive Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers initiated by ICAR to promote sustainable nutrient management practices among farmers.
During the programme, scientists and officials briefed farmers on the key principles of soil health management, including balanced fertilization, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), soil test-based fertilizer application, use of organic amendments, and bio-fertilizer application.

The experts cautioned farmers against the excessive use of urea, highlighting its adverse impact on soil health, crop productivity, and input costs. Emphasis was also laid on the use of eco-friendly nutrient sources such as organic manure, green manure, bio-fertilizers, vermicompost, compost, and liquid fertilizers for sustainable agricultural production.
As part of the practical demonstrations, farmers were also trained on seed treatment using bio-fertilizers to enhance soil fertility and crop performance
A total of 100 farmers participated in the programme.
