Coorg Signature Academy Students Explores Farm Activities at ICAR-KVK, Kodagu

ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kodagu, in association with Coorg Signature Academy, Begur, Ponnampet, Kodagu district organised a Students’ Educational Visit-cum-Guava Day Programme at the ICAR-KVK Kodagu Farm, Athur. The programme provided students with an opportunity to learn about agriculture through practical, field-based experiences. This initiative will boost the Agro- Tourism among the School going children and provide the career opportunities in Agri & Allied Education.

As part of Guava Day, the students visited the guava orchard and learned about guava cultivation, fruit production and the nutritional importance of guava. Students also enjoyed plucking and tasting fresh guavas directly from the trees, making the learning experience both enjoyable and memorable.

The students were divided into batches for visits to the Animal Science Unit and Nursery Block, where they gained practical exposure to livestock-related activities, nursery management and plant production. They subsequently visited the Natural Farming Unit and learnt about sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.

The afternoon session was made more engaging through fun-filled educational activities for the students, including fruit-identification games, agriculture-related quizzes, rapid-fire questions and team-based activities. These activities encouraged students to interact with one another while reinforcing the knowledge gained during the farm visit. The combination of practical learning and recreational activities helped create an enjoyable and memorable educational experience.

The programme concluded with a Swachhata Hi Seva programme and feedback session, during which students shared their experiences and learnings from the visit.

Overall, the educational visit provided the students with hands-on exposure to horticulture, livestock, nursery management, natural farming, plant protection and agricultural practices, while the Guava Day and fun activities added an interactive and enjoyable dimension to the learning experience.
