Reinforcing its commitment to nurturing future-ready agri-entrepreneurs and promoting scientific education in fisheries, the ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute organized an educational exposure visit for students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, IIT Kharagpur under the PM SHRI scheme. The programme was conducted as part of the Institute’s 80th Foundation Day celebrations.
The participating students actively engaged in the Foundation Day events, making the visit both informative and inspiring. The initiative emphasized the integration of education with innovation, while creating awareness among young learners about the vast potential of fisheries science, sustainable aquaculture, and entrepreneurship—thereby contributing to the development of a resilient and self-reliant future generation.

Addressing the students during the inaugural session, Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR–CIFRI, highlighted the Institute’s broader role in shaping Gen Z by exposing them to diverse dimensions of fisheries science and development. He underscored the importance of early scientific orientation in transforming young minds into future entrepreneurs, capable of generating employment and contributing to the nation’s blue economy.
The exposure visit provided students with valuable insights into inland fisheries as both a scientific discipline and a viable livelihood option. They toured advanced laboratories and research facilities, gaining first-hand experience in areas such as aquatic biodiversity, environmental monitoring, and sustainable resource management.
A key highlight of the visit was the aquarium and ornamental fish units, where students were introduced to modern aquaculture practices and ornamental fisheries. This exposure broadened their understanding of emerging opportunities in fish-based enterprises and value-added products.

Interactive sessions with scientists and technical experts further enriched the learning experience, offering students a deeper understanding of how research and innovation are addressing contemporary challenges in fisheries and environmental sustainability.
Designed as a student–scientist interaction platform, the initiative aligned with the vision of the PM SHRI scheme by fostering experiential learning and bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world applications.
