ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan celebrated its 93rd Foundation Day on 4th July, 2016.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR, in his address, urged for co-ordinated efforts to find the solutions of challenges posed by the nature. Proper terracing of slopes in the cloudburst prone areas along with scientific plantation with soil binding dual purpose trees; fodder grasses, and fruit trees may reduce the mud slide caused by heavy rain, he said. Dr. Mohapatra said the portable technology of rubber dam may prove very useful for the hills. The poly-tank water developed by ICAR-VPKAS needs to be replicated in the state along with vegetable cultivation and fisheries in the polytank. He suggested that apart from the website and SMS services, the Institute could develop a mobile application to reach out to the farmers.
Dr. Mohapatra also inaugurated a large scale mushroom composting facility at the Institute on 3rd July, 2016.
Swami Somdevanand of Ram Krishna Mission, Almora blessed the audience and explained the teachings of Swami Vivekananda in the area of science and agricultural development.
Dr. A. Pattanayak, Director of the Institute highlighted the research achievements of the Institute.
A book was released and awards were conferred on scientists and staff of the Institute.
Senior officials from ICAR headquarters and Directors of local ICAR Institutes also participated in the event.
