DG, ICAR Emphasized on Practices for Sustaining Soil Carbon

Dr.Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) visited ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal today and addressed a gathering of scientists and staff of the Institute.
Dr. Mohapatra, in his address, emphasized that declining total factor productivity and deteriorating soil health is a major concern. Natural resource management scientists need to play a pivotal role in sustaining productivity without deteriorating soil health in the long run, he added. He stressed the importance of best management practices to sustain the soil organic carbon for major soil types. He lauded the achievement made by ICAR-IISS especially in preparation soil fertility maps, developing INM packages and on-field soil testing minilab Mridaparishak.
The DG was accompanied by Dr. J.S. Sandhu, DDG (Crop Science), Dr.P.K. Ghosh, Director, ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi and Dr. N.P. Singh, ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur.
Earlier, Dr. Ashok K. Patra, Director, IISS welcomed the dignitaries and briefed about the institute’s major activities and also emphasized the importance of “Healthy Soil for a Health Life”.
