The ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, Maharashtra organized the Webinar on “Solid Waste Management (Crop Residues)” today.

Delivering the Lecture on “Solid Waste Management (Crop Residues)”, the Chief Guest, Dr. R.H. Balasubramanya, Principal Scientist & Former Head, CBPD and Emeritus Scientist, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai stressed on the need for solid waste composting in the cities / towns and crop residue composting in the farming sector. The various technologies available for the solid waste composting, their protocols, merits and demerits were underlined by Dr. Balasubramanya.

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Sujata Saxena, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai stressed on the importance of solid waste management both in the urban and rural scenarios. The Institute’s efforts being taken for developing the value-added products from Cotton Plant Stalks and Aerobic / Anaerobic Technologies for the value creation from the crop residue, supporting budding entrepreneurs and Start-Ups in establishing the compost-based technologies, etc., were highlighted by Dr. Saxena.

Dr. A.J. Shaikh, Former Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai stated about the cotton stalk-based particle board production technology for the benefit of the Incubatees and Entrepreneurs.

Dr. B.M. Khadi, Former Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur, Maharashtra encouraged the participants for identifying the problems with the existing technologies and other managerial issues to make particle board and composting technology profitable.

Dr. Sarada Devi Anne, Former Dean (Home Science), Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Andhra Pradesh & Incubatee of ICAR-CIRCOT-ABI expressed her interest to get trained in the field of composting with reference to the residual biomass left after the extraction of natural dyes.

More than 100 participants participated in the Webinar.
