Seminar on “Futuristic Approaches on Natural Fibres” organized

The ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organized the Seminar on “Futuristic Approaches on Natural Fibres” here today.

Deliberating on “Auxetic Textile Structures and Applications”, Dr. B.K. Behera, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi highlighted the wide range of meaningful applications in the field of medicine, defence and fashion apparels, etc.

In his address, Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata outlined about the Institute’s venturing into research in the various out-of-the-box ideas like the development of Vegan leather and the development of Fibre reinforced concrete. The running of collaborative Projects with the different prestigious Institutes like IIT, Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur was also highlighted by Dr. Shakyawar.

Discussing on the topic - “Arsenic Contamination Mitigation - Water Quality in Pond and Wetland”, Dr. Srikanta Samanta, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata underlined the ways in which the retting of Jute causes a source of contamination and enunciated its mitigation pathways.

Dr. Najam A. Shakil, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi discussed about the “Futuristic Approach of Seed to Market of Fibre Crop”.

The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
