The Zonal Monitoring Committee of TDC-NICRA visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chittoor (RASS) for reviewing the KVK’s activities under the NICRA from 9th to 10th September, 2019.
The KVK has been implementing the technology demonstrations under the NICRA since 2012 under the crop production, NRM and livestock modules besides undertaking Institutional interventions viz., Custom Hiring Centre (CHC), Seed Bank and Fodder Bank through the Village Climate Risk Management Committee (VCRMC).
The Committee under the supervision of Dr. N. Sudhakar, Former Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Hyderabad reviewed the KVK, Karakambadi’s activities in the KVK’s instructional farm.
Dr. D. Srinivasulu, Head, KVK underlined the KVK’s achievements under the NICRA since inception.
The Committee suggested to quantify the impact of NRM interventions, saturate successful interventions in the NICRA villages and up-scale them to the adjoining villages. It visited the two NICRA villages of the KVK (Chittecharla and Deendarlapalli) on the 10th September and reviewed the various interventions implemented under the NRM, crop production and livestock modules.
It also suggested for implementing the contingency plans during late onset of the monsoon, facilitating seed production of drought tolerant varieties by farmers of the village, recharging the bore wells through convergence and encouraging the value-addition to tomato during periods when prices fall.
The members of the Committee included Dr. K. Srinivas, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CRIDA; Dr. K. Ramesh, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIOR and Dr. J.V. Prasad, Principal Scientist, ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad (Member secretary).
