The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh organized a Workshop on “Roof Top Kitchen Gardening: An Initiative” -cum-Farmers’ Fair today.

The Chief Guest, Smt. Sanyukta Bhatia, Mayor, Lucknow highlighted the value of including the vegetables in our diet for living a healthy and disease free life. She stressed that the vegetables not only protect our body from diseases, but are also an abundant source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients which are essential for good nutrition.

Smt. Bhatia expressed her concerns over the indiscriminate use of chemicals for the vegetables cultivation as they are making the vegetables very toxic and injurious to human health. She emphasized that the programme will ensure the proper utilization of time, save money, create awareness of agriculture and develop positive thinking among the urban women. Smt. Bhatia also conferred the best performers in roof top gardening and kitchen gardening with the certificates and mementos.

At the outset, Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, ICAR-IISR highlighted the KVK, Lucknow’s achievements in roof top kitchen gardening in the urban areas and kitchen gardening in the rural areas. Dr. Pathak also urged the KVK for emphasizing on the roof top gardening.

More than 500 urban and rural women participated in the programme.
