Workshop on “Banana Flour (BaKaHu) Value-Addition and Competition” organized

The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Uttara Kannada, Sirsi, Karnataka in collaboration with the Uttara Kannada Organic Federation, Sirsi; Department of Horticulture, Sirsi and State Department of Agriculture (ATMA) organized the Workshop on “Banana flour (BaKaHu) Value Addition and Competition” today.

Dr. S. Uma, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Banana, Tamil Nadu and Shri Shri Padre, Editor, Adike Patrike, a farm-based journal marked their presence as the Chief Guests of the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Dr. V. Venkatsubramanian, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone - XI, Bengaluru stated about the benefits of Banana Flour enriched with food, nutrition and energy value for the farmers.

Dr. Ramesh Babu, Director (Extension), University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka presided over the Workshop.

The Exhibition-cum-Competition of BaKaHu Value-Added Products was among the main attractions of the Workshop in which nearly 56 farm women and Self-Help Group Members participated and exhibited more than 175 BaKaHu products in sweet, spicy and daily usable categories prepared by them. The importance of Banana powder products’ diversity and nutritional security was highlighted in the exhibition.

Over 350 participants including Farmers, Farm Women, Entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups and other Stakeholders from the various Districts of Karnataka participated in the workshop.
