Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries inaugurated the “District Level Kisan Mela” organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda today.
In her inaugural address, Smt. Badal emphasized on the need of value addition and processing of farm produce.
She said that the self-reliance and hard working nature of the farmer’s leads to a lot of scope of value addition and processing of farm produce in the state like Punjab.
She also informed the participants about the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India’s various beneficial schemes of subsidies. The Minister applauded the KVK’s role in guiding the farming community and motivating the rural youth for entrepreneurship development through ARYA.
Smt. Badal visited the demonstrations on wheat sown with Happy Seeder and fields managed with eco-friendly methods of rice residue management. During this, she also interacted with the farm women and young entrepreneurs.
Smt. Badal also conferred awards to the prominent rice-residue managers of Bathinda who are engaged in practicing of non-burning methods of rice residue for the last many years.
Earlier, Dr. J.S. Mahal, DEE, PAU, Ludhiana emphasized on having the value addition of sugarcane juice to make Gur, Shakkar, Gacchak and many other such products. He applauded the KVK Bathinda team for their work to manage whitefly and eco-friendly management of rice residue in the district Bathinda.
Dr. J.S. Brar, Associate Director, KVK Bathinda conveyed his gratitude to the famers, KVK team and media for their support in organizing the mela.
The Mela registered a total footfall by more than 500 farmers and farm women.
