The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG), Ranchi organized a four-day Training Programme funded on “Lac Integrated Agro-Forestry System for Livelihood Security” from 29th October to 1st November, 2019.
The event was sponsored by the World Agro Forestry Centre (ICRAF), New Delhi
The Chief Guest, Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Director, Institute of Forest Productivity (IFP), Ranchi, Jharkhand accentuated on the agro forestry models in enhancing the area under the forest as well as doubling the farmers’ income. Dr. Kulkarni opined for the use of various multipurpose tree species suitable for the region for land use diversification. He also urged the farmers for adopting the lac integrated agro-forestry systems with the help of expert institutions.
In his Valedictory Address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG regarded the integration of agriculture and forestry as the key for the tribal communities’ as well as forest dwellers’ livelihood security. It ensures the regular income and minimizes the risk in the remote areas of the country. Dr. Sharma appreciated the interactive and field visit activities during the training programme.
The Training Manual entitled “Lac Integrated Agro Forestry System for Livelihood Security” was released during the occasion.
The beneficiaries were distributed the need-based Lac Cultivation Kit, vegetable seeds and planting materials.
A total of 23 participants were conferred with Certificates for attending the training programme successfully.
