The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune has organized a 6-day Training Programme on “Preparation and Dissemination of Agromet Advisories for SMS (Agromet) and Observers” under the Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa Project at the DAMUs in the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka.
The programme has been organized in collaboration with the India Meteorological Department, Pune at the ICAR-National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur from 19th to 24th August, 2019.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Jyotsna Sharma, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur highlighted the importance of agro-meteorological advisories for the farmers in general and the horticultural crops in specific. Dr. Sharma emphasized on the importance of dedication and commitment in the professional life for all the newly recruited SMS and Observers.
Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Pune stressed on interaction with the agencies, State Agricultural Universities, India Meteorological Department and looking at the farm level stress is the need of the hour to prepare the realistic agro-advisory, reduce input cost and increase input use efficiency.
Dr. Kripan Ghosh, Head, AGRIMET Department, IMD, Pune underlined the need of precise data collection, interpretation, analysis, etc. He urged to focus on practical and operation training for the participants through the experiential learning.
The programme will also hold the Interactive sessions by the experts from the IMD, Pune.
The participants will be provided with the hands-on-training for preparing the Agromet Advisories for sowing, irrigation, fertilizer and pesticide application, harvesting using the realized and forecast weather.
