Training-cum-Awareness Programme for farmers on AgDSM organized

The Energy and Power Department, Government of Sikkim organized the Training-cum-Awareness Programme on Agricultural Demand-side Management (AgDSM) at ICAR-KVK, East Sikkim, Ranipool today.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim, Ranipool.
In his inaugural address, Dr. R.K Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong said that the rapid increase in the electricity consumption by the agricultural sector has led to the growth of rural electrification coupled with the policy of below cost electricity supply to the farmers. He highlighted the state government’s various schemes for the welfare of the farming community. Dr. Avasthe urged the farmers for adopting the intensive farming system with the improved production technologies developed by the ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong.
Shri D.N. Khatiwara, Chief Engineer and Shri D.K. Sharma, Additional Chief Engineer-cum-Nodal Officer (SDA), Energy & Power Department, Gangtok discussed about the AgDSM.
More than 145 farmers from different villages of East Sikkim District participated in the programme.
