The ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Uttarakhand arranged a Talk on “Diversification in Aquaculture” today.
In his address, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR outlined the technological advancements made in the field of Freshwater Aquaculture.
The Eminent Speaker, Dr. A.P. Sharma, Former Director, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata emphasized that the diversification of aquaculture will enable to cope with the future changes and challenges of the sector. He also regarded the climate changes, dietary diversity, resource fluctuations and food security issues as the key global drivers for diversification in Aquaculture. The importance of the Government of India's newly launched Flagship Scheme - Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) marks the historically largest investment in the Fisheries Sector that aims to drive ecologically healthy, economically viable, and socially inclusive growth of the fisheries sector was highlighted in Dr. Sharma's Talk.
Earlier, Dr. Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal delivered the welcome address.
A total of 75 participants including Officials, Scientists, Entrepreneurs, Fish Farmers and Stakeholders from the different states of the country attended the Talk organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
