Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare visited the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Umiam today.
Shri Choudhary interacted with the Senior Scientists & Heads, SMSs and Progressive Farmers of 4 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), viz., Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. He urged the KVKs for their efforts in doubling the farmers’ income by the Year - 2022 by forming the FPOs and through organic farming.
The Minister also visited the Nalapara Village near Nongpo in Ri-Bhoi Districts. He interacted with the farmers and took a note about the benefits that they could get due to the implementation of “Farmers’ FIRST” Project by the ICAR-ATARI through ICAR Complex, Umiam. He suggested few tips on utilizations of indigenous cows, waste decomposer, etc., after visiting the IFS model in the village.
Dr. V.P. Chahal, ADG (Agricultural Extension), ICAR was accompanied by Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (Natural Resource Management), ICAR.
Earlier, Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Umiam briefed about the Institute’s achievements and implementation of various Flagship Programmes of the Government of India.
