Sensitization on “Responsible fisheries & input distribution

Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute , Port Blair, conducted a "Sensitization on responsible fisheries and Input Distribution under Schedule Tribe Component (STC)” for the welfare of tribal fishermen of Minicoy from 25th to 29th July 2022.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Shrikant R. Tapdiya, Deputy Collector of Minicoy expressed his happiness about the technological intervention in Tuna Fishing, Sustainable Fisheries, Tuna Harvest, and Post-Harvest Practices.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Hussain Manikfan, Chairperson, Village Dweep Panchayat, Minicoy appreciated the ongoing activities and new initiatives at ICAR-CIARI, Regional Station, Minicoy.

A scientific team from ICAR-CIARI visited Bada, Aoumagu, Boduathiri, New Boduathiri, Rammedu, Sadivalu, Aloodi, Funhilol, Kudehi, Fallessery, and Kendiparty villages and South Pandaram to sensitize about responsible fishing practices.

Total of 500 seasoned bamboo poles were distributed to the 55 Tuna Lanchi of Minicoy.

More than 61 participants participated in the programme.

The programme was conducted under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
