ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack and ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi jointly organized “Rice Germplasm Field Day” today for the benefit of rice research workers under the auspices of Consortium Research Project on Agro-biodiversity.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-NRRI emphasized the importance of gift of Nature in form of genetic resources of different crops to mitigate and prevent any types of climatic aberrations to them.
Dr. B.C. Patra, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of CRP on Agro,-briefed on the activities and achievements of CRP-AB Project. He said the invaluable genetic wealth is now being characterized and screened against the major pests, diseases, abiotic stresses like submergence, drought, etc., at the multi locations in the country.
A Technology Bulletin on “Germplasm collection, conservation and evaluation for Rice improvement” was also released on the occasion. Participants also visited the experimental fields.
More than 65 participants including Scientists from ICAR Institutes from different regions, States Universities and State Government Officials participated in the programme.
