The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland organized the “Review Meeting of Semi-intensive Mithun Rearing Units established under Tribal Sub Plan” from 6th to 7th February, 2020.
Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, NRC on Mithun emphasized on the advantages of scientific semi-intensive Mithun rearing.
The officials from NABARD and State Bank of India deliberated upon the Central Government’s schemes for the farmers’ welfare.
The participating farmers witnessed different activities including milking, semen collection using electro-ejaculator, artificial insemination, animal identification techniques, feeding practices, etc., during their visit to the Institute's Mithun Farm. They also tasted the Mithun milk for the first time.
The ICAR-NRC on Mithun has been popularizing the alternative package of practices of semi-intensive Mithun rearing developed by the Institute.
The main objective of the meeting was to have interfacing between the Mithun farmers of different states as well as the Scientists and other stakeholders.
A total of 59 Mithun farmers from 22 villages of three Mithun rearing States of North East India, viz., Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur attended the meeting.
