Recognition of ICAR-AICRP on Agro Forestry adopted Village Chount Waliwar, Ganderbal through TSP in “Mann Ki Baat” by Hon’ble Prime Minister

Recognition of ICAR-AICRP on Agro Forestry adopted Village Chount Waliwar, Ganderbal through TSP in “Man Ki Baat” by Hon’ble Prime MinisterSmt. Zaituna Begum, Sarpanch, Chount Waliwar, a tribal village of  Block  Lar, District Ganderbal from got special appreciation from the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi in his address in the “Mann Ki Baat” Programme broadcast On-Air on All India Radio today. The village was selected under the Tribal Sub Plan of ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry by the Coordinating Centre of the Project located at SKUAS&T, Srinagar in the Year - 2019.

The ICAR-AICRP on Agro Forestry conducted 2 Awareness-cum-Training Programmes on 4th September, 2019 and 6th November, 2019 in the selected village. The selected tribal farmeres were distributed the different kinds of planting materials, fodder seeds (legumes / grasses) and Agricultural Tool Kits under the supervision of the Sarpanch - Smt. Zaituna Begum and other members of the local Panchayat.

An Awareness-cum-Training Programme on agroforestry was conducted in the selected village on 2nd July 2020. The participants were provided with the Face Masks and Sanitizers free of cost and proper SOP’s was followed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The farmers were also distributed the University produced Maize Seed (C-4) for sowing in different Agroforestry systems along with the saplings of various fruit plants (apple, pear, etc.), broad leaved tree species (Poplars, Elm, Willow) for planting in their farmlands to meet the needs of fodder, fuelwood, poles and fruits.

The farmers reported around 4 times enhancement in the fodder yield ensuring the availability of the green fodder throughout the year resulting in increase in the milk yield due to use of nutritious fodder and improved soil physical conditions.
