Orientation programme on Preparation and Dissemination of Agromet Advisories for Nodal Officers of Krishi Vigyan Kendras Orientation programme on Preparation and Dissemination of Agromet Advisories at Block Level under Gramin Krishi Mausam Seva scheme for Nodal Officers of KVKs of Zone V held at ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata during August 9-10, 2018.

Dr. K. K. Singh, Head, IMD, Pune, in his inaugural address, briefed about the purpose of upgradation of existing agromet advisory system in different agro climatic zones. He said dissemination to farmers by means of M-Kisan, Dordharshan, SMS and KVK portal and feed back is important and compulsory for socio and economical impact.

Dr. S. S. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI Kolkata said short and medium forecast is important for farmers which affect the crops, fish and animal husbandry.

Dr. Gokul Debnath, former Deputy Director General, RMC Kolkata said a special model has to be introduced for forecast at block level. He also urged to include one progressive farmer in this advisory group.

Dr. Sanjib Bandopadhyay, Deputy Director General, RMC, Kolkata mentioned about the medium range weather forecast at district and block level, extended range weather forecast, nowcast and weather forecast for extreme weather and their availability to KVKs.

Prof. P. K. Roul, Dean, OUAT, Bhubneswar urged that advisory should be in local language.

Senior official from IMD and OUAT; Scientists of ICAR-ATARI Kolkata and the Heads of 16 KVKs of Odisha and West Bengal participated in the programme.
