Nutri-Cereals Farmers’ Mela organized

Dr. Ashok Dhawan, Vice Chancellor, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani inaugurated the “Nutri-Cereals Farmers’ Mela” at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Beed - 1 today.

 

He urged for focusing on to promote the advanced climate smart technologies. He opined for incorporating the coarse grains in the existing cropping pattern. Dr. Dhawan accentuated on promoting the Nutri Cereals processing and value-addition among the farmers to enhance their income. He highlighted about the different varieties of Rabi Sorghum like Parbhani Moti, Parbhani Super Moti, Parbhani Jyoti, Parbhani Shakti that can be grown under the Rainfed situations.

Dr. Dhawan also felicitated the Progressive Farmers, Producers of Nutri-Cereals, viz., Shri Kerba Vharkate and Smt. Aprana Yeske during the occasion.

Shri Atul Jain, General Secretary, Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi highlighted the coarse cereals’ importance in the fast changing climatic conditions and rainfall variations. He underlined about the capacities of Sorghum, Bajra, and Minor Millets to stand in all the adverse conditions.

Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune briefed about the Project “Nutri-sensitive Agricultural Resources and Innovations (NARI)” that is being implemented at each Krishi Vigyan Kendra for ensuring the nutritional security. He also urged for utilizing the various mediums like farming system nutrition model, nutrition garden at each household, nutrition garden at each school, quiz competition in schools, display of problem with solutions at common places through wall paintings, hoardings, flex-banners, wall newspapers, etc., to create wide awareness among the villagers.

The Senior Officials of various ICAR Institutes were also present during the occasion.

At total of 569 farmers including 85 farm women of different villages participated in the programme.
