The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland under the Tribal Sub Plan organized the "Mithun Mela-cum-Technology Awareness Programme” in Mawai Village, Kamjong District, Manipur today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Narendra Prakash, Joint Director, Manipur Centre of ICAR-Research Complex for North-Eastern Hill Region emphasized on rampant deforestation as a major constraint in Mithun production. He urged the line department to come forward to disseminate the technologies.
About 35 Mithuns were vaccinated against the major mortality causing diseases in Mithun - FMD, HS and BQ. The farmers were distributed the common veterinary medicines, mineral mixtures, deworming medicines and ointments during the occasion.
The farmers were also felicitated with the awards and certificates for owning the best Mithun Cows, Heifer and Calves.
During the Farmers’-Scientists’-Interaction Session, the Mithun farmers shared their problems related to Mithun health, breeding and reproductive management.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among the Mithun farmers about the scientific semi-intensive rearing of Mithun for enhancing the productivity using the technologies and packages of practices developed by the ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Nagaland.
A total of 365 farmers from seven surrounding villages attended the Mela.
