ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized Midterm review meeting of Regional Committee (Region II) here today. The ICAR Region II, comprising the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal and Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and has enormous potentialities for agriculture development including livestock and fisheries.
Dr. J.K Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) in his address said while food production scenario of the region has improved substantially over last one decade, the region is still deficit in pulses, oilseeds. Hence, concerted effort of Centre, State, NGOs and other stakeholders are required for a strong Research, Development and Extension Programme in the region to achieve self sufficiency in various sectors of agriculture and to double the income of the farmers by 2022 in line of the Vision of Govternment of India, he added.
Dr. B.K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Member secretary of Regional Committee-II presented the Action taken report . A total of 35 Action points were framed during last RCM-II at Hyderabad.
Directors from ICAR Institutes and officials from universities participated in the meeting.
Representatives from 26 ICAR-Institutes/RRCs, eight universities and State Departments of West Bengal, Telangana, Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar Island were present in the meeting.
