A workshop on farmers' feedback on doubling farm income by 2022 was organized at ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research & Management, Hyderabad during 22-23 December 2017. The objective of the workshop was to acknowledge that farmers are 'partners' in agricultural development agenda and they contribute immensely in planning and implementation of suitable action plans.
Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, presided over the plenary session of workshop. In his address, he acknowledged the role of farmers in the development of the country. He also felicitated all the farmer delegates. Earlier, Shri Shekhawat and Dr.N.S.Rathore, DDG (Education), ICAR interacted with the farmers.
Dr. N. S. Rathore, DDG (Education) urged the farmers to do intelligent and informed farming. He also acknowledged the contribution of the farmers in making India self-reliance.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director ICAR-NAARM spoke on the importance of such a workshop at a crucial juncture.
Dr. V. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University was the Chief Guest and Dr .V. P. Chahal, ADG (Agri.Extn.) was the guest of honour of the inaugural session. The inaugural programme was presided by Dr.Ch.Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM.
Four concurrent technical sessions were organized where the farmers from various states shared their views towards doubling farmers’ income by 2022. The farmers also narrated their experiences in augmenting their resources and also flagged issues, challenges and opportunities in achieving the targeted double income. The technical sessions were chaired by Dr.V. P. Chahal, ADG (Agri. Extn.), Dr. M. B. Chetti, ADG (Education), Dr. S. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-DKMA, and Directors from ICAR Institutes.
Partner farmers of the Farmers FIRST programme were the delegates for the workshop. A total of 200 delegates including about 143 farmers from 25 states participated in this workshop.
