The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune in collaboration with the ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Pune organized an Interface Meeting on “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” at the ICAR-DOGR’s campus, Pune today.
Dr. Major Singh, Director, ICAR-DOGR, Pune urged the participants from the various organizations for joining the hands to develop joint action plan on water conservation and rain water harvesting.
Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune said that 20 blocks of 8 droughts prone Districts in Maharashtra are identified for the implementation of “Jal Shakti Abhiyan”. Dr. Singh stated that 11 Krishi Vigyan Kendras are given the responsibility to create the mass awareness on water conservation activities. He stressed that the project need to be implemented in the mission mode with the active participation of ICAR Institutes, KVKs, Line Departments and NGOs like Paani Foundation, NAAM Foundation, etc.
Dr. Indu Sawant, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Grapes, Pune raised her concerns for groundwater level depletion. She urged on compiling the technologies on water conservation and rain water harvesting.
Dr. Jagdish Rane, Director, ICAR-National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management, Baramati urged for the identification of Ambassadors on water conservation. He emphasized on the role of Social Media and Mobile Phones’ Ringtones with water saving appeal for encouraging the people to save water.
Dr. K.V. Prasad, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune urged for the promotion of various useful measures like natural water resources management, recycling of water, protected cultivation and enriching water table.
A total of 70 participants registered their participation in the meeting.
