The ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana organized an Interface Meet on “Characterization and Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources of Ladakh: A mission towards Zero Non-Descript Population” today.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Bhupendra Nath Tripathi, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR stressed on the role of livestock in the socio-economic development of Ladakh farmers.
Dr. V.K. Saxena, ADG (AP&B), ICAR underlined the future road maps to make Ladakh Zero Non-Descript. He also applauded the Bureau’s efforts to initiate the mission of Zero non-descript from the difficult terrain of Ladakh.
Sh. Ravinder Kumar, Secretary (Animal Husbandry and Administration), Union Territory of Ladakh emphasized on the farmer’s-friendly technologies and guidelines for supporting the farmers of the UT of Ladakh under animal husbandry development programme.
Shri Tashi Namgyal Vakzee, Executive Councilor, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh lauded the ICAR’S efforts for characterizing and recognizing Ladakh’s animal resources. He also urged the scientists to come up with value-addition, farm support and modern technologies for generating attractive revenue from animal rearing.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal, Haryana outlined the status of AnGR in the country and the road map in documenting AnGR in the Ladakh region.
A total of 95 participants from the different organizations and stakeholders from Ladakh participated in the Meet.
