The ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, Uttarakhand virtually celebrated its 98th Foundation Day at its Experimental Farm at Hawalbagh and its two Krishi Vigyan Kendras, viz., KVK, Kafligair, Bageshwar & KVK, Chinyalisaur, Uttarkashi today.
In his “1st Padma Bhushan Prof. Boshi Sen Memorial Lecture”, the Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) paid his tribute to Prof. Boshi Sen for his tremendous contributions in establishing the Institute.
The Director General stressed on the need for taking-up the high class fundamental research in the agro-ecology of Himalayan region represented by the Institute in collaboration with the Institutes within and outside ICAR. The need for building-up competitive advantage through gap analysis, prioritization of activities and addressing the novel challenges were emphasized in the Director General’s address. Highlighting the importance of consumer preference, Dr. Mohapatra urged for building evidence on functional nutritional traits and branding Small Millets’ Products to promote them globally.
The DG also dedicated 3 Newly Released Varieties namely - VL QPM Hybrid 59, VL Mandua 382 and VL Cherry Tomato 1 developed by the Institute along with the Charcoal-based Cold Tolerant Plant Growth promoting VL Bioagent 15 to the farmers during the occasion.
Swami Shri Dhruveshananda Ji Maharaj, Chairman, Ram Krishna Kutir, Almora, Uttarakhand emphasized on advancing the scientific agriculture in the near future.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, Almora briefed about the Institute’s history, mandate and its achievements during the last year.
