The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner celebrated 36th Foundation Day with great zeal today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. M.S. Sahani, Ex-Director, ICAR-NRC on Camel inaugurated the Camel Clinic at the Centre. Dr. Sahani also took a note of the physical facilities that have been developed for research, livestock farm and facilities of tourist attraction, etc. He urged the Centre for continuing its efforts for popularizing the camel milk among the public on large scale.
The Special Guest, Dr. N.D. Yadav, Head, CAZRI Sub-Station applauded the Centre’s role to decipher the idea of use of camel milk that has helped it to be accepted by the society due to which its acceptability is increasing day-by-day.
Dr. R.K. Sawal, Director of the Institute outlined the Centre’s efforts undertaken for the establishment of NGO’s / Self Help Groups for collecting, processing and marketing of camel milk in the camel habituated areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat. He also stated about the training of interested farmers / entrepreneurs for clean milk production, development of different milk products and establishment of cold chain for better transportation to improve the livelihood.
The occasion also held Scientists’-Farmers’-Interactive Meet for discussing the present day utility of camel and means for improving the livelihood of camel herders. The various measures were also discussed to provide prompt solutions to the various challenges being faced by them for rearing of camels.
The Drawing, Essay and Slogan Writing Competitions organized for the employees of the Centre kept the participants captivated towards the venue in large numbers.
A total of 300 farmers, entrepreneurs, visitors and Officials of ICAR Institutes at Bikaner participated in the event.
