ICAR North Zonal Sports Tournament hosted by ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun on 23rd November 2022
ICAR North Zonal Sports Tournament hosted by ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC), Dehradun inaugurated on 23rd November 2022 at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) located in the Forest Research Institute (FRI) Campus in Dehradun. The mega event in Dehradun is scheduled for four days from 23rd to 26th Nov. 2022.
Sh Ashok Kumar, IPS, DGP, Uttarakhand has inaugurated the sports meet as the Chief Guest and declared the grand opening of the tournament. While emphasizing the importance of sports and sportsmanship, he narrated his association with sports in his personal development and in different institutions. Accepting the salutations of all the contingents of the tournament, he wished all the participants for a joyful and winning participation.
Earlier, Dr M Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC welcoming the chief guest and participants, he briefed details of the contingents who are participating and the associated Institutes and Subject-Matter Divisions of ICAR. Dr Charan Singh, Head (Plant Science), and organizing secretary of the event IISWC thanked the participants, organizing teams, sponsors, referees, and the Chief Guest of the function for their committed support and involvement.
The inaugural function began with the Ganesh bandana, proceeded with the ICAR song, the March-past of the sports contingents, and ended with the traditional dance and cultural performance by traditional artists and the national anthem. The military band from the IMA Dehradun was coordinating the March-past. The souvenir of the tournament was released by the chief guest and other dignitaries of the function.
About 780 sportspersons from 25 different ICAR institutions located in 6 northern states of India take part in different sports events organized. Most part of the sports events will be organized at the IGNFA playground and some of the events will be held at the campus of the ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun. Field events including 100, and 800 m race and Table Tennis were organized on the first day of the sports meet.
Though the sports meet is an annual feature in the ICAR, this year's event of the North Zonal Sports Tournament is hosted by the ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun. The sports contingents from all the participating institutes are seen with lots of enthusiasm and take their position to exhibit strength and competitive sports spirit in various events scheduled for four days. Scientists, staff of the IISWC, and sports participants from different ICAR Institutions graced the occasion with zeal and sportsmanship.
