The ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management (IIWM), Bhubaneswar bagged the Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award - 2017 among the ICAR institutes of “Small Institutes’ Category”. The Institute was bestowed with the award for its outstanding performance in the field of agricultural water management research and training.
Dr. S.K. Ambast, Director, ICAR-IIWM received the prestigious award from Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) on the occasion of Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela - 2019 organized at the ICAR-IARI, New Delhi from 5th to 7th March, 2019. The award includes a citation, a plaque and cash prize of INR 10 lakh.
The Institute had also been adjudged for the Outstanding ICAR Institute Award for the Year - 2006.
ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar has played an important role in the basic and applied research in the field of agricultural water management. Several outstanding contributions have been made by the institute and several viable technologies on the water management by putting continuous efforts for a period of about three-decades have also been developed by the Institute.
For the purpose of enhancing the climatic resilience, the institute has developed post-flood management interventions. The Institute has also developed the technologies for the groundwater recharge in the hard rock areas and groundwater pumping for the coastal areas. The framework developed by ICAR-IIWM for the district irrigation plan is playing a pivotal role in the capacity building under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
