The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Research Centre, Sunabeda in collaboration with Chief District Agriculture Office, Jeypore, Koraput organized the “Kisan Mela - 2020” from 10th and 11th January, 2020.
Highlighting the importance of agriculture in the tribal dominated region, the Chief Guest, Shri Jagannath Saraka, Minister of State for ST/SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of Odisha emphasized on the needs of farming community about the market price and acreage sowing data in advance to make their production decisions. He stressed to have the linkages with the developmental departments to harness the benefits of various programmes and schemes. The Minister also accentuated on the need of rainwater conservation and its efficient utilization.
Earlier, Dr. M. Madhu, Head of Centre, ICAR-IISWC, Sunabeda welcome all the dignitaries and participants.
The dignitaries urged the farmers for adopting the modern agricultural practices and improved technologies to enhance their income and livelihood.
Around 32 farmers (Two farmers from each Blocks of the District) were felicitated with the “Kisan Puraskaar Award - 2019-2020” for their contribution towards innovative agricultural practice during the occasion.
The four Extension Workers from the Departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and MSSRF were also bestowed with the District Best Extension Award - 2019-20.
More than 600 farmers of Koraput District participated in the event.
