The ICAR-Indian Institute Sugarcane Research, Lucknow celebrated its 69th Foundation Day today.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Archana Shukla, Director, IIM, Lucknow applauded the ICAR-IISR’s partnership with industries for the commercialization of the technology. Prof. Shukla also delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on “Management issues of research organizations with special reference to team spirit and leadership”.
Dr. Sushil Solomon, Former Vice-Chancellor, CSAUA&T, Kanpur stressed on the need for addressing the issues of varietal planning, ethanol blending with petrol, more economic and diversified uses of bagasse, inter-cropping for doubling the farmers income, etc.
In his welcome address, Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, ICAR-IISR highlighted about the releasing of two varieties of sugarcane, viz., CoLk 12207 and CoLk 12209 developed by the Institute during the last year. He also outlined about the adoption of seed production technology, inter-cropping and ratoon management techniques in more than 15,500 hectares area which accrues to additional profit of Rs. 190 crores in one single year to the farmers.
The various officials and scientists were felicitated during the occasion.
The farmers were distributed the sugarcane seed of improved variety of sugarcane, viz., CoLk11206.
The innovative farmers of Lucknow and Sitapur Districts of Uttar Pradesh participated in the event.
