ICAR-IIRR organizes National Conference on Integrative Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology

8 - 9 November, 2019, Hyderabad

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad along with the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, New Delhi organized the National Conference on “Integrative Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology” from 8th to 9th November, 2019. The Institute also organized a Workshop on “Gene Editing for Enhancing Plant Productivity and Stress Tolerance” from 10th to 12th November, 2019.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) highlighted the ICAR’s tremendous contributions to increase the agricultural production and productivity of the country. Dr. Mohapatra emphasized on the necessity of basic research and its integration with applied research for the farmers’ benefits. He stressed on the importance of biochemistry research for unraveling the pathways and biochemical processes contributing the unique characteristics of crop plants that could immensely contribute to tailoring of plants as per our future requirements.

Padma Bhushan Prof. G. Padmanabhan, Former Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore delivered Dr. N.B. Das Memorial Lecture on “Application of modern technologies in agriculture” during the occasion.

Earlier, Dr. S.R. Voleti, Director, ICAR-IIRR welcomed the dignitaries and participants.

Around 250 scientists and young researchers/students representing more than 22 states from various organizations participated in the event.

The Satellite Workshop on “Genome Editing” organized with a specific emphasis on CRISPR/Cas based Genome Editing provided hands-on-training on all the segments of Gene Editing.

The workshop registered a total participation by more than 52 participants including students and researchers from public and private organizations.
