The ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research organised the “Smart Rice Hackathon - 2019 (24 hours - continuous)” from 9th to 10th February - 2019.
The Hackathon was organized on the occasion of National Science Day.
The First 24 hours Hackathon organized by ICAR involved local engineering college students to develop the IT-based solutions for farmers by using Artificial Intelligence. The problem statement is “Mobile based AI module for Rice pest detection”.
Dr. S.R. Voleti, Director, welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. Soam, Join Director, NAARM and the teams from different colleges.
Subject matter experts from Entomology, Pathology, Physiology and agronomy acted as internal mentors and evaluators during the Hackathon and The Computer Scientists acted as external mentors and evaluators for the hackathon.
During the event, an interactive session with the students, mentors, subject matter experts was also organized.
During the closing ceremony of the Hackathon, the teams presented methodologies and outputs followed by demonstrating the mobile app.
The event was coordinated by a team of scientists namely Dr. B. Sailaja, Ch. Padmavathi, D. Krishnaveni and B. Sreedevi.
