The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi in association with National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khunti organized two-day Kisan Mela-cum-Technology and Machinery Exhibition - 2020 from 13th to 14th February, 2020.
The Chief Guest, Shri Alamgir Aalam, Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj and Parliamentary Work, Government of Jharkhand inaugurated the Mela. The Minister emphasized on spreading the knowledge of scientific lac cultivation to the lac growing areas, especially, Jharkhand as it is the important source of income for the farmers. Shri Aalam also accentuated on the organic farming for sustainable development of farming community as well as better health for consumers.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Badal Patralekh, Minister of Agriculture, Cooperatives, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Government of Jharkhand appreciated the live display of lac coated formulations for fruits and vegetables, sealing wax preparation, silk weaning, farm machinery, drip irrigation seeds and fertilizers.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Sanjay Seth, Member of Parliament, Ranchi highlighted about the increase in price of lac due to the awareness about its production, processing and application among the stakeholders. He also stressed on taking up the issue of formulating National Lac Development Board with the concerned Union Minister.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Rajesh Kachhap, Member of Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) outlined the recent farmer welfare schemes of the central and state governments.
Dr. Anjani Kumar, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Patna emphasized on the district level efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the promotion of commercial farm activities for doubling the farm income.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi outlined about the lac cultivation activities that are eco-friendly and tribal farmers are benefited through regular capacity building programmes. He emphasized on the integrated farming system, particularly, agro-forestry and lac cultivation in the Rainfed agro-ecosystem of the state. Dr. Sharma also felicitated the Excellent Stall Exhibition Awards to the winners.
The farmers of Ranchi and Bokaro Districts were distributed the farm implements for lac cultivation and goat units.
The occasion also held a Kisan Goshthi.
More than 3,000 farmers including lac growers, women farmers, entrepreneurs, rural youth and officials from the Line Departments participated in the Mela.
